• The title does say "finding", not "tracking". A collection of stories about retrieving wounded deer. Accurate for those where I've shared the experience. I was hoping for guidance on tracking, and did not find much of that.
• After having lost a big deer I was determined to improve my tracking skill. While this book would not have helped me track the lost one, I would have known not to take the marginal shot I did, in the first place. Good procedures post shot, and logical, organized approach to staying on the trail when hope starts running out. I recommend it to all hunters.

• good read on an unusual subject. every deer hunter should read this
• This is a very good book on the subject and should be required reading for every hunter out there. The topcs are well organized, the text clear and where necessary the pictures help out on some of the difficult points. There is also a summary at the end of the chapter to remind you of what you just learned and many practical pointers throughout the book about recovering wounded deer. The book concentrates on deer but the concepts can be applied to all groundbased hunting situations.

• Captain Pederson, USN Ret, has written an excellent memoir of his experiences in Topgun and the 9 original brothers. This book made me think back to my 20 year career in the USN (Chief Petty Officer USN Ret) I had been employed at the GE Armament Division in Burlington, Vermont, as a mechanical inspector. This plant was fully engaged in the Nam effort and we were 'pumping' out 7.62 MM Miniguns and 20 MM Vulcans at a rapid speed. The war effort began to dwindle and I lost my job in Dec 1970...actually Friday the 13th. On to another chapter in my life which included enlisting in the USN... Mar of 1971 as an Aviation Maintenance Administrationman...Data Analyst or statistician for aircraft data...And, yes I do miss the USN and my shipmates every single day...
  
  Navy Aviators are the cream of the crop and don't get any better than they are. The numbers that are presented in the prologue had been long forgotten by me. In the Gulf of Tonkin, for example, it is stated that 532 aircraft were lost and the USN had 644 aviators Missing in Action or Prisoners of War. Just staggering numbers when one thinks of those statistics.
  
  The reader is able to see Topgun through Captain Pederson's vision.. From its inception in the fall of 1968, the degree of dedication, leadership skills, passion, and adaptability are portrayed. In his words 'In combat second best is dead last'.
  
  This is a glimpse into Topgun which has never been seen before. Truly an outstanding book which will thrill anyone interested in aviation...particularly Naval Aviation. Do Naval Aviators have swagger? You betcha and deservedly so...
  
  One more personal note....when I was assigned to VA-45 at Cecil Field, FL in the early 1970's, I went through a 3 day course so I could back seat in the TA-4J's. When that back seat was free and it was near lunch time, I was able to fly with the pilot for missions...One of the highlights of my career.. I was in the USN during the Topgun era so this memoir really brought back a flood of my memories. Loved this book...
  
  I shall save this one on my for future reference. BZ to Captain Pederson, USN Ret, for writing this and thank for your service, Sir. This is truly a most interesting read with information and facts never presented previously.

• My bias - Marine F4-B RIO, 316 combat missions over Laos, Cambodia, North and South Vietnam with VMFA-115 and -122 Steel Tiger, Pigment and Playboy escort, BarCAP, MiGCAP, and Lovebug were my day to day terms, for those of you who know what all that stuff was about. All my training before going to Vietnam centered on close air support and shooting down Russian bombers. Fighter vs. fighter was seldom formally addressed. But slipping out into Whiskey 291 meant finding dissimilar aircraft and confronting the strengths and weaknesses of the F4 Phantom. Even as Navy Fighter Weapons was developing, we began to get the word about how that incredible aircraft could take on and beat nimbler MiGs - that word came from the people developing the Top Gun curriculum and even then, third-hand, maybe fourth-hand, we learned. When I returned from Vietnam to VMFA-531, we had a large number of graduates from Top Gun and our educations really - to use a phrase - took off. I knew very little about the people who put it all together (and, hopefully, still do) until I read this book. For students of military aviation, this is a must read, and for us very old aircrew who learned from the Top Gun agenda, this will bring back some grins. I would like to have heard a bit more about what's going on nowadays but, as a "lapsed" historian, I was delighted to hear from one of the key people in the history of Top Gun. Highly recommended.
• Rather happy I bought this book about TopGun's origins. Although the book is about Pedersen's career and thoughts on air combat, if you want a thrilling story about the Vietnam War and air combat, start here. Rather amazed how quickly TopGun got started, and with an abandoned trailer nonetheless.
• Dan Pedersen was one of my instructors in the F4 training squadron when he and the small cadre of combat experienced Naval Aviators and Naval Flight Officers formed a detachment to try to develop better combat capability of the Phantom aircrews. That detachment developed the tactics and skills that later became the stand-alone unit known as Topgun. That program resulted in a huge increase in our air combat success in Vietnam and is the standard for fighter tactics today. This is a great read not only for the aviation aspect but also a touching story of love lost and regained.
• Meh. I got a quarter of the way thru the book and got tired of reading about a handjob to naval aviation. Yeah, yeah you guys were wonderful. Thanks for letting us know *again* you noble skynights. Y'all are special, way above us mortals. Knock yerself out.
• Like AMOST everyone else, I thought that this book was both wonderfully written, historically accurate, and had some special “messages”. The best chapter, in my opinion, was the last; an analysis of what’s wrong with our procurement system and where it’s leading us. I strongly encourage anyone who has an interest in the future of naval aviation, the history of ACM, and Topgun...to read this.

• These are great books. All of the Who Was books are excellent for young readers. My daughter gets very excited when she can teach us a little something about history and she seems to truly find things interesting. I think this is a great read for grades 3 and 4
• My students are in a 5th and 6th grade gifted class and all really enjoy the entire series of "Who Was?" "Who Is?" and "What Was?" books for their AR (Accelerated Reader) goals. These series are all classified as nonfiction, with book level from 4.5-6.0 and they are worth 1 point.
• My 7 & 9 year old love this who was series. Very informative kids, not to kiddy. Kids love these and parents too. Kids love to share what they have recently learned and with ears opened parents can learn just as much as the kids!
• Had to buy this book to get my daughter introduced to this amazing pilot woman, Especially after we started figure skating classes at Aviator Sports(abandoned hangar redesigned to be multiple sports complex), with a huge photograph of Amelia Earhart on the wall.
  P.S. we also needed to read more for school book club.
• Great book. It's good for second grade. ( or i say 1 - 3 grade) my daughter got it for her school book report, and she is third grade. She finished the entire book quickly within a day and it's very easy for her to understand the story and the history.
• My daughter finished this book and said I LOVE AMELIA EARHART. Very informative and entertaining with plenty of good pictures.
• My 8 year old is really onto this series right now so grandparents purchased a lot of them for her birthday. She's read quite a few of them already and we have enjoyed hearing her "teach" us the new information.
• This was a great little book for my 5th grader to do a small report. Had more than enough info and nicely animated. I intend to buy more in the series.

"I purchased this book as a Christmas gift for my son. When it arrived in the mail, I opened it to flip through to see just how "ultimate" it is. I was disappointed to see the book was in black and white, had very simple buildings, and looked as if it was published by someone with a printer and book binder in their basement. Definitely NOT amazing or ultimate. I'm irritated by paying ten bucks for this and bet the "author" is laughing all the way to the bank. I noticed it was originally priced at $99...what a joke!! Only three stars because my son is a Minecraft junkie and will appreciate the gift. There are much better building books available, pass on this."

• My friends and I used to build massive cities on our server. We would spend weeks building these complex buildings and systems only to go to war against one another in an attempt to destroy everything. It was probably some of the most fun I've ever had in a game. Sadly, because of school we stopped playing for a few years and just recently picked it back up. What's even more depressing is that we all lost our touch when it comes to building. I searched through and found this book. It was so informative and really helped us all get back on our feet and back to building those massive complex towers. IT'S TIME FOR WAR!!
• this book is a great way for me to reconnect with minecraft. I used to watch tutorials on a very skilled minecraft player but he was put on strike and then his videos became unwatchable. each video of his said this video cannot be watched. I then gave up on minecraft completely. and voila, here is this tutorial book for minecraft. it's by far the best instructional book I've ever read, although as the buildings get more advanced, the instructions become less specific. mother than that, it's a very good book I recommend it to anyone who wants or needs a new source to build in minecraft.
• I actually bought this for my 50-Something Year Old Husband. He is a Closet Crafter.. managing millions of dollars by day, mining by night. It's his equivalent to relaxing with a glass of wine. He *might* fight our 8 year old for computer time to play... he *might* have gotten so tickled with himself when he figured out how to turn Zombies into Villagers, he *might* have multisheet Minecraft spreadsheets full of data, project du jour analyses and formulae for computing how many tracks he needs to build a track from one village to the next... but he will *never* admit to any of it. Neva! In fact, he will tell you he's "just helping our boy a bit and that's all."
  
  BUT. I may have gotten this book for him for Christmas this past year and he *might* have squealed-stifled-by-a-manly-throat clearing every few minutes as he "uninterestedly" perused it and made notes on what he wanted to try out... I mean, his list of stuff for me to get at the store of course= beer, peanuts, baseball hat... yanno, Manly Stuff *eyeroll*.
  I adore seeing him completely relax as he fully engages himself in the game...watching our boy play it, I mean of course. He works hard and deserves a sublimination tool like this to check out, build stuff, kill other stuff. All very Man like activities... I keep telling him to make his own world and try it out... as I walked by him while writing this a few minutes ago, I noticed rainbow colored sheep (a tip from the book) and his avatar riding a pig (another tip.from the book). He must have shared what he had read in the book with our boy... of course he did...Two Man-Sized Thumbs Up!
  
  Received this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
• My son was very disappointed in this book. The illustrations are in black & white & the directions are seriously lacking making it hard to build what they put in the book. It did come on time & in good conditions, but fed not worth the money.
• A couple of cool ideas pictured, but details on how to build them are limited. Tip "Enchanting is pretty complex.....don't worry if you don't understand it yet. If you do understand, it can be very useful". This tip did not help me at all. The book does contain a lot of basic tips that get you motivated to try new things that you may not have thought about. If you try the fireplace, you'll probably burn your house down too; just like it says not to. Would like to see a volume two.
• Worst book I have ever bought, it's black and white pictures, some are so dark you can't even see what they are. The book is called "Ultimate Building Book", but it was clearly made for beginners, and all of the builds in the book are so simple.
• I purchased this book as a Christmas gift for my son. When it arrived in the mail, I opened it to flip through to see just how "ultimate" it is. I was disappointed to see the book was in black and white, had very simple buildings, and looked as if it was published by someone with a printer and book binder in their basement. Definitely NOT amazing or ultimate. I'm irritated by paying ten bucks for this and bet the "author" is laughing all the way to the bank. I noticed it was originally priced at $99...what a joke!! Only three stars because my son is a Minecraft junkie and will appreciate the gift. There are much better building books available, pass on this.
• Please add more to this book soon like how to build a castle or something like that please I am begging you

• I love this book so much! I’ve recently gotten into bird watching and this had a unique twist on the hobby. I’ve read the authors other books and I love her so much!
• Today I'm reviewing The Hidden meaning of Birds a spiritual field Guide by Arin Murphy-Hiscock.
  
  Generally I like to start out with a disclaimer. I am an contemporary witch. I look for the connection between magic and science without the need to search for a creator. I receive no compensation for these reviews and all my links are standard links and not affiliate links. I am a practicing photo reader and have spent the last 16 years honing my craft. I offer personal readings by request and have a strong online history that boasts nearly 400,000 views.
  
  I was a little surprised that this was a soft cover book. I started flipping through and quickly realized how fantastic this book would be rolled up and stuck in a back pocket or tossed in a back pack for a quick trip to the park. There is a short index in the back and a small list of resources. The cover is beautifully colored and was a delight to actually hold.
  
  The author was quick to provide us with a "how to use this book" section at the onset. I like the fact she referenced to very reliable sources for bird identification and stated emphatically this was not a complete resource for birds in general. Too often authors like to use titles like "the complete book of..." or "the complete reference..." only to leave out very valid voices on the topic. This was nice to see. The author further explains that the myths and folklore associated are not the ONLY interpretations. Again, well done to the author. I loved the suggestion for the reader to keep a journal. In all sorts of magic the best thing to do is WRITE IT DOWN. You'll be happy you did that later. How much mugwort did I use? Was then done on the Full Moon? Where is that totem?? Trust an old witch when I say, write it down. )
  
  I loved the chapter on working with the Birds spiritually. This section offer insight into what you're seeing what you're seeing and what guides or totems may await you crediting our tribal kin from all countries with these types of traditional magical practices.
  
  Now, on to the birds. The second half of the book takes individual birds and gives us a photo, the genus, popular variants, where the birds live, what their environment is like and the physical description. The author further provides facts, myths, omens and associations for each of the birds listed in the book. One of my favorite sections was the one for the Ibis. I adore the long neck birds and the grace and elegance. The omens associated are knowledge and writing. Perhaps because I've been putting off these book reviews for a bit and the Ibis wants me to get cracking! LOL
  
  The book goes on for over 200 pages of birds and their assorted correspondences. I am in love. I have already decided to take this book with me next time I head out to the Bird Park and try to connect with some of these amazing creatures.
  
  Overall this is a really good book. I had not thought of working with birds in this manner before but I certainly intend on trying now. I highly recommend this book for new witches and crones alike.
